Morro Bay State Park is about 32 miles from the Hearst Castle Visitors center but was included on this list of campgrounds, picnic and recreation spots for Hearst Castle visitors because it is a California Coastal State Park and Campground extraordinaire! The Morro Bay State Park and recently refurbished campground offers vacationers every camper support facility imaginable and a plethora of unique fun recreational activities. Each campsite offers the usual parking, picnic table, fire-ring or barbecue grill stands and many are handicapped accessible. For RV and trailer camping there are pull through sites with electric and water hook-ups. Morro Bay State Park has a small colorful marina and offers recreational opportunities for sailing, fishing, hiking, and bird watching. The museum of natural history has exhibits that cover natural features and cultural history, Native American life, geology, and oceanography. Campers at the Morro Bay State Park Campground can even enjoy an 18-hole public golf course and more vacationing opportunities abound.
