The photo section below details the Hearst Castle Road leading to the large Hearst Castle® Visitor complex, William Randolph Hearst State Beach and the small town of San Simeon. You can easily see part of the visitor’s center, the pier at the State Beach and the large Spanish style Hearst warehouse in San Simeon but much is obscured by large trees. I will tell though, there are no hotels or resorts at this time in San Simeon, the closest hotels are about three miles south in a hotel row called San Simeon Acres, next are the hotels and resorts in Cambria about 10 miles south and the unique Ragged Point Inn Resort 15 miles north. The Best Western Cavalier Oceanfront Resort is quite a large property and the only hotel or resort in San Simeon Acres that actually has ocean frontage property and hotel rooms right next to the beach. The long light colored building top center is the Sands Motel but almost everything else in this photo detail is part of the Cavalier Resort; the buildings on the left, the long building in the middle with the pool and green grass and the building on the bluff right next to the beach belong to the Cavalier, there are several campfire pits in that large open field where resort guests like to gather around sunset to visit and warm by the oak wood fire long into the night.

The Sea Coast Lodge which became the Orchid Inn is now the Morgan Hotel at San Simeon under new ownership and is recently under new management and trying hard to win your business, they have different levels of accommodations that might be worth a look...

The Motel 6 is clean comfortable and one of the best values to be had in San Simeon Acres...

Good Value, The Motel 6: The Motel 6 at San Simeon Acres is not fancy but it is clean, the prices are reasonable, there is a good café and bar on site. WI-FI is available and some rooms even have ocean views, additionally there is no additional charge for your dog but do let them know you have a pet when you reserve your hotel room or check in.

The San Simeon lodge is long established but often refurbished and well kept, a good place for visitors to stay and a fun place to play for locals and tourists alike…

A large well located hotel property: The San Simeon lodge is an acceptable hotel that has a good ocean view restaurant with an attached cocktail lounge which has fun weekend entertainment that attracts both locals and tourists, if you want to you can dine at several other close by restaurants and the beach and a mini-mart are also within close walking distance.

So I pasted a few of the California Coastal Records Project aerial photos together and came up with panorama of the whole community of San Simeon Acres from one end to the other, “HOTEL ROW” every hotel plus a few restaurants and other business that all provide support for area visitors...

Aerial Photo Description: A cut and paste of CCRP aerial several San Simeon Acres photos shows the whole coastal hotel community; from left to right foreground (north to south) is Pico Avenue cul-de-sac which allows public access to Pico Creek beach; next is the 12 acre Best Western Cavalier Oceanfront Resort, up front are the Cavalier Restaurant and Hotel Lobby all the hotel buildings including the one on the bluff right next to the beach are part of the Best Western Cavalier Oceanfront Resort; continuing down the frontage road Hearst Drive next building is the Sands Motel; then next is Plaza del Cavalier a small mall of gift shops, restaurants and offices, one important office located in the Plaza is the San Simeon Chamber of Commerce and the another is the Friends of the Elephant Seals; next heading south on Hearst Drive is one of the Morgan Hotel Buildings then separating the two Morgan Hotel Buildings is the El Chorlito Mexican Restaurant then on the corner of Hearst Drive and Vista del Mar is the Sea Breeze Inn hotel. The beginning across the Pacific Coast Highway 1 on Castillio Drive the first hotel is Motel 6 also home of the Pacific Blue Bar and Grill; next in the photograph headed now right to left (south to north)is the Wampum Trading Post that sells Native American Crafts and there is also a neighboring souvenir shop; after that is the Quality Inn Motel which also houses the Manta Rey Restaurant, next is the Days Inn San Simeon and the Big Sur California Cafe; next heading north on Castillo Avenue is the Silver Surf Motel, the Best Western Courtesy Inn, the San Simeon Lodge behind the San Simeon Beach Bar and Grill and finally San Simeon Liquors.
